A place to rest, a place to return.
Our History
In 1893, a plot of uncultivated land in Woonsocket, RI was acquired, and in 1895 was consecrated as B’nai Israel Cemetery, the burial ground for a new Jewish community.
By the early 20th century, Northern Rhode Island was home to a thriving Jewish population. A mix of prominent and influential leaders, as well as a cadre of middle- and working-class citizens, were born and raised in the B’nai Israel community.
Many stories can be told of the individuals and families who rest here. Loved ones can be assured that care and community are at the heart of our mission. The B’nai Israel Cemetery Board is dedicated to preserving the dignity of the resting place of those who rest here, but continue to live in our memories.
A greater service
We understand that our world is changing, as are our families. We are proud to be one of the few Jewish cemeteries that provides opportunities for interfaith and cremation burial. We are independent and not affiliated with any specific denomination of Judaism, congregation, or clergy.
